Watercraft Starter

Starter is a simple device that uses torque multiplication to turn over the much stronger main engine. On most watercraft, except the very small bore units, the starter driving gear engages with a reduction gear cluster that allows the relatively weak starter to turn the engine over fast enough for it to run under its’ own power.

If you are experiencing a starting problem be sure to check the battery including the cables if it is firmly in place with no signs of corrosion. Also, do not forget the ground cable! Make sure that corrosion and electrolysis have not disrupted the electrical path so severely so that it will never turn over!

Another common problem in many watercraft starter is that it is easily and inexpensively remedied even by the home mechanic. The brushes that are inside the starter and that conduct current are easily broken by vibration and age. The replacement brush sets or even full brush plates are just a fraction of the cost of a new starter and easy to install. Make sure to check all these before deciding to replace your watercraft starter. To get new watercraft starter, check on our site http://www.magemarinestore.com to know the available watercraft starter.

Why Battery isolator is important to your Boat Battery?

We want to make sure that anything we buy, we can always maximize its worth. This is the reason why we need to be cautious when it comes to buying something. Boat battery for example must be taken care of after purchasing but we must be aware on what are the things we need to know what things to consider in buying a boat battery. Here’s our tip for you boaters. When choosing a battery you must:

1. Determining the Ampere Hour Draw of Your Boat. To determine the ampere you need to know what electrical equipment you have and what the 12-volt amp draw is. For example 12 volt item with 500 gph can draw 2.0 amp, while 1000 gph can draw 2.9 amp.

2. Understanding Battery Ratings. These ratings are designed to help you select the proper battery for your application. For example Ampere Hour Rating (Reference Rating) is the number of amps which a battery can distribute for a 20-hour period. The bigger the ampere hour rating, the more power the battery can deliver over time. Marine Cranking Amps (MCA) is the number of amps a battery can supply at 32 0 cell. Reserve Capacity (RC) is the time, in minutes, for which a battery will deliver 25 amperes at 800 Now that you understand how to select the right boat battery, it is significant as well to get the best battery isolator. Why? Because this battery isolator has the capability to simultaneously charge more than one battery from a single power source (e.g., an alternator) without connecting the battery terminals together in parallel. This is helpful because a weak or dead battery will drain the charge from a strong battery if both are connected directly together. To prevent this happening, it is wise to get battery isolator. For battery isolator that will last, check this ARCO Battery Isolator BI- 0702-4 .F for 30 sec, and preserve at least a voltage of 1.2 volts per F. This represents the time, which the battery will last to operate.

How to know when Voltage Regulator is not working anymore?-

Voltage regulator as we knew is a device that controls the amount of voltage that passes through the motor. It is important is electrical device since voltage regulator is the one that stabilize the DC or direct current to our electrical device. If our voltage regulator malfunction, chances are, inefficiency of electrical device like motor will be experienced. So, how we can identify if the voltage regulator is not working anymore?

“Some of the signs of a bad voltage regulator are dimmed or pulsing lights, dead battery, and unpredictable engine performance. It is also stated that engine stalling, sputtering, and intermittent acceleration will occur when the vehicle’s voltage regulator is unable to handle the power that is put out by the vehicle’s stock alternator. A bad voltage regulator can rapidly diminish the alternator’s ability to cycle power from the battery as well.” http://www.ask.com/question/signs-of-a-bad-voltage-regulator and when we experience all these signs the best thing to do is to change your voltage regulator

Tilt Trim Motors

Did you know that Power Tilt and Trim units are electro-hydraulic mechanisms driven by a motor-driven gear pump as a source of providing hydraulic pressure? The angle of the outboard machine is actively changed by trim function, and an efficient running is secured. Tilt function is useful for the protection of the outboard engine. Moreover, the hull and the outboard engine is prevented being damaged by Shock absorbing function (https://www.showa1.com/en/product/boat/power_tilt_trim.html). This is the reason why we need to choose the right tilt trim motor for our boat. Tilt trim motor will enable us to either speed up or slow down our boat depending on our tilt trim performance.

With this we only suggest the best tilt trim motor to ensure the safety of your boat. Check on the following tilt trim motor below.

Inboard Alternator

A working alternator is vital for your boat’s battery to stay charged. If the alternator is not working, the battery will be ditched completely. To know the alternator is working with a device called a voltmeter can be used. Voltmeters sense the voltage level in an electric current. If no current is flowing from the alternator chances are the batteries are not being charged because the alternator has failed. Indications of a failed alternator such as drained battery when the engine has been running and electronics not functioning.

To know if our alternator is working, let me cite some tip from EHow site. http://www.ehow.com/how_7967759_check-inboard-motor-alternator.html

1.       Open the battery compartment and remove the battery cover if your boat has one.

 2.      Start the boat and let it idle for a minute. Do not rev the engine.

 3.      Touch the positive lead of a voltmeter to the positive battery terminal and touch the negative lead to the ground terminal, and turn the voltmeter on. The voltmeter should give a reading between 13.2 and 15.3 volts if the alternator is charging the battery. If it is lower than that, the alternator will need to be replaced.

 4.      Touch the leads of an ammeter to the output terminals of the alternator, the red lead to the positive terminal and the black lead to the ground terminal. Turn all of the boat’s accessories off and turn the ammeter on.

 5.      Rev the engine to 1,200 rpm and hold it for a few seconds. The ammeter should read close to the maximum rated amperage of the alternator. Most inboard alternators are rated for about 100 amps.

And to get these inboard alternators, we would like to present our alternators at www.magemarinestore.com

Battery Isolators

As part of Marine electrical parts, battery Isolators is one of the most important boat parts. With battery isolator, you can power up your boat and sail in any part of the ocean or sea. It is for this reason that we need to know the type and kind of battery isolator we need. Considering how long the travel and the amount of electrical flow you need most especially if you will be going to a wavy place, you need to choose the appropriate battery isolator.

Battery Isolators are solid-state devices which allow electrical current to flow in one direction only, thus permitting the alternator to be connected directly to two batteries without fear of one higher charged battery discharging into the lower charged battery. Both batteries have always been charged automatically, in proportion, to their needs, whenever the engine is running. When battery isolator are used in conjunction with selector switches, it is not necessary to change the switch position to provide charging of both batteries. isolators provide proportioning of the output or charging current to the alternator to the batteries as required, regardless of switch position. Rated for use with 10 to 350 amp alternators on 12, 24, or 32 volt negative ground systems. Below are some of our batteries isolators we offer from www.magemarinestore.com
